Longwater Counseling Collective

Providence, RI · In person & online across Rhode Island

Five therapists, so you can be matched rather than squeezed in.

Longwater is a group practice, which means the question isn't whether we have an opening — it's which of us is right for what you're carrying. Tell us what's going on and we'll point you to the person who does that work, even when that person isn't one of us.

The people here

Everyone at Longwater is licensed in Rhode Island and works a deliberately small caseload. Here's who has room right now.

What we work with

Every area, and who here does it.

Anxiety & burnout

The racing mind, the flat exhaustion underneath it, the job that's eaten everything else. We work on what's driving it, not just on breathing through it.

Trauma & PTSD

Single incidents and the long, accumulated kind. EMDR and other trauma-focused approaches, at a pace that doesn't ask you to relive it to get better.

Renée

Couples & relationships

Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples who fight about everything and couples who've stopped talking. Both partners in the room, or each separately when that's what's needed.

  • Thea Lindqvist, LMFT

Thea

Teens & families

Therapy for 13 and up that treats a teenager as the client, with parents properly looped in — and family sessions when the thing that needs to change is the household, not the kid.

Grief & loss

Recent losses and ones from years ago that never got any room. Including the losses people don't bring casseroles for: miscarriage, estrangement, a diagnosis.

Perinatal mental health

Pregnancy, postpartum, fertility treatment, and loss. Certified perinatal care for the parts of new parenthood nobody warns you about.

Five of us, so the question is never whether anyone has room — it is which of us is right for what you are carrying.

Being matched

How being matched actually works.

You don't have to read five bios and guess. Tell us what's bringing you in, and we'll do the sorting.

What you send

“Hi — I've been running on empty since the spring and I think I need to talk to someone. Evenings are easier for me. I have no idea who I should see.”

A few sentences is plenty. You don’t have to know what it is, name a diagnosis, or pick a therapist.

  1. 1

    Tell us what's going on.

A few sentences is plenty. If there's someone here you'd rather see, say so — you're welcome to choose for yourself.

  2. 2

We match you, usually same week.

Our intake coordinator reads every message and replies with one clinician, why them, and two times that are actually free. If nobody here fits, we'll send you names elsewhere.

  3. 3

A first session, and a real check-in after.

After your second session we ask directly whether the fit feels right. Switching within the practice is normal and costs you nothing — it isn't a complaint, it's information.

Honest fit

Who we're right for — and when we'll send you elsewhere.

A group practice can cover a lot of ground, but not all of it. We'd rather tell you that in the first email than in the fourth session.

We're likely a good fit if you're…

  • Looking for ongoing individual therapy for anxiety, trauma, grief, or burnout
  • A couple or a family who needs everyone in the room, not just one person reporting back
  • A teenager or young adult, or the parent of one, who wants to be taken seriously
  • Someone who's tried therapy before and it didn't take — we'll talk about why

We'll help you find someone better suited for…

  • Children under 13 — we keep a list of local play therapists we trust
  • Active substance dependence that needs a specialized program
  • Psychiatric medication management — we coordinate closely, but we don't prescribe
  • Court-ordered evaluations and custody assessments — we don't do forensic work

About

A practice, not a referral list.

We share an office, a supervision hour, and a standard of care — so when your therapist is out, someone here knows your name, and when your work needs something outside their lane, the handoff happens in the building rather than in your inbox.

In their words

I wrote in expecting a waitlist and got a reply the next morning naming one therapist and explaining why her. That was the first time the process felt like it was being done for me rather than to me.

Logistics & intake

Fees & the practical bits.

Fees vary by clinician, because our associates are earlier in licensure and our supervisors are further along. Everything is listed plainly before you book.

Fees

$130–$185 per 50-minute session

sliding scale spots at every level

Insurance

We're in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Aetna, and out of network with everyone else. For out-of-network plans we send a monthly superbill, which many PPO plans reimburse in part. Our coordinator will check your specific plan before your first session, so the number you hear is the number you pay.
