About

About the practice

The practice behind the people

Longwater began in 2016 with one clinician and a waiting list she couldn't ethically keep growing. It's now five therapists on Westminster Street who share an office, a weekly supervision hour, and one stubborn rule: the person who's right for you matters more than the person who happens to be free.

Everyone here

Filter by what you're looking for, and the list narrows to the clinicians who do that work. Cards say plainly who's taking new clients.

How we work

What we hold each other to.

Matched, not assigned

You get a clinician chosen for your situation and told why. If it isn't right after two sessions, switching inside the practice is free and normal.

Honest about capacity

Every card on this site says whether that person is taking anyone new. A waitlist you can see beats an enquiry that goes quiet.

One standard of care

Our associates cost less because they're earlier in licensure, not because you get less. Their work is reviewed weekly by a supervisor.

We'll point you elsewhere

Plenty of good work happens outside this practice. When that's what you need, you'll leave the first conversation with names.

The path here

How we got here.

2016

One office on Westminster Street

Renée left hospital social work and opened a solo practice, mostly trauma and perinatal work, and filled it within a year.

2019

The second and third chairs

Marcus and Thea joined, which meant couples work and grief work could stay in the building instead of becoming a referral out.

2022

A training practice

We began taking associates under weekly supervision — lower fees for clients, and a way to bring new clinicians into the field properly.

Today

Five clinicians, deliberately

Big enough to match you well, small enough that everyone here knows every client by name. We've turned down growth that would change that.

Credentials & training

  • All clinicians licensed to practice in Rhode Island
  • Associates supervised weekly by a licensed clinical supervisor
  • In network with BCBSRI and Aetna
  • Trained across EMDR, EFT, ACT, and DBT-informed approaches
  • Perinatal Mental Health certification (PMH-C) on staff
  • Members, National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
